Dr. Windell Gill, PSAP

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Windell has more than twenty years of pastoral ministry counseling experience. His experience includes working with families and individuals on issues ranging from sexual identity to multiple addictions. He coaches individuals, couples, and families toward a holistic cognitive/emotional awareness that results in behavioral transformation. He serves as a consultant to local municipalities training adolescent offenders to make better choices by managing emotional impulses. He is a certified faculty member of the Emotional Intelligence Training and Research Institute, which presents emotional intelligence research promoting life transformation. Windell has conducted multiple seminars on emotional literacy for behavioral management. He developed a Real-Time approach to emotional skills training (R-TEST) that involves constructive learning in a safe environment. He also developed the SELAH Method which is an approach to social/spiritual and emotional learning for afective health. Windell’s doctoral research identified the impact of emotional labor on well-being and found specific behavioral mechanisms necessary for maintaining positive health when undergoing life stresses.

Dr. Gill earned a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Seminary, a Master of Science in Education from University of Houston at Clear Lake, and a Doctorate in Education from Lamar University. He trained through the International Association of Trauma and Addiction Professionals and is a Certified Pastoral Sex Addiction Professional. He has also trained through the Thinking Collaborative in Cognitive Coaching, which is a research-based model to enhance cognitive processes that support self-managing, self-monitoring and self-modifying behavior.

Jake is a National Certified Counselor, Certified Professional Coach, Certified Sex Addiction Therapist, Certified Multiple Addiction Therapist, Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, and Certified Daring Way™ Facilitator. He is also an LPC Intern under the supervision of Sharon V. Carroll, MA, MBA, LPC-S, and offers psychotherapy through DM Therapy Services. Jake is a Level I PACT Clinician and is undergoing extensive training in Emotionally Focused Therapy, an evidence–based treatment for couples who have suffered attachment injuries. He sees individuals and couples for sex and love addiction; intimacy and attachment disorders; premarital counseling and marital enrichment; and issues of depression, spiritual stagnancy, and growth. Believing in the inherent worth of every person, Jake utilizes insights from psychology, interpersonal neurobiology, and spirituality to help individuals experience greater healing and freedom in their lives. He enjoys teaching as an adjunct professor of counseling at Houston Graduate School of Theology.

Jake has a B.A. in Psychology from Elmira College, a Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lamar University, a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Master of Theology from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is a Professional Member of the Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health (SASH). Jake has been trained by Dr. Patrick Carnes, the world’s leading pioneer in the diagnosis and treatment of sex addiction, and is also trained by Dr. Barbara Steffens to work with partners of sex addicts using the Multidimensional Partner Trauma Model of APSATS. He learned Post Inductive Therapy from its developer, Pia Melody, and sat under Drs. Pat Love, Sue Johnson, and Stan Tatkin to learn to work with couples in recovery. Jake has taught and presented research on the topics of theology, counseling, and sexual addiction around the world.
